Intercell

Broadcast, TV & Recording Studios

Organised cable management and acoustic comfort beneath the floor of broadcast, TV and recording studios

What Intercell Means for Broadcast, TV & Recording Studios

Broadcast, television and recording studios require a dense combination of audio, video and data cables, while sensitive equipment must be exposed to as little electromagnetic interference or unwanted noise as possible. Intercell organises this cabling beneath a hot-dip galvanised steel floor, with each panel removable individually and without tools whenever a new camera or sound setup is required.

Cable management for audio, video and data

A studio setup often combines multiple types of cabling simultaneously: microphone cables, video connections and data lines to the control room. At Intercell, these run beneath removable steel panels of 500 x 500 mm, supported by floor supports with floor boxes for the connection points. Because each panel can be removed individually, a technician can access a specific cable route without dismantling the rest of the setup.

Key Benefits

Core Advantages of the Modular System

Rapid Modularity

The interlocking system enables fast installation and reconfiguration, without drilling. Assembly on a levelled floor can be carried out easily using adhesive bonding. Available in 6 different fixed heights.

High Load Capacity

Class 4B according to EN12825, with a maximum load of over 9 kN and a deflection of less than 2.5 mm. The system withstands both soft body and hard body impact tests without failure.

Durable and Recyclable

Intercell is composed of a minimum of 25% recycled steel (LEED-approved). The steel base elements are 100% recyclable.

Fire Safe

Fire resistance tested in accordance with EN13501-1 and EN13501-2, class Afl-s1. In a small-scale fire test under a load of 800 kg/m², the maximum deflection remained limited to 0.98 mm.

Acoustic Comfort

Enhanced sound insulation, both horizontally and vertically, and sound absorption with or without carpet. The use of acoustic barriers further improves the overall acoustics of the floor.

Suitable for Heating

The system is excellently suited for underfloor heating and central heating, thanks to the removable, lightweight floor panels.

Ideal for broadcast and recording studios

For broadcast and recording studios, the EMC shielding (approximately 20–25 dB) and the enhanced sound insulation are particularly relevant: reduced electromagnetic interference with sensitive equipment, and a quieter acoustic environment thanks to the acoustic properties of the floor.

Fast to build for a new recording

A studio layout changes with every production: camera positions, audio setups, and cabling must be reconfigured regularly. Because Intercell is installed without drilling and each floor panel is individually loose-laid, a new cable route can be realised relatively quickly between recordings, without the need to break up the floor on a large scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Intercell suitable for dense cabling in a studio?

Yes. The system is designed for cable management and provides space within the floor boxes for multiple cable types running side by side.

How quickly can cabling be reconfigured between two recordings?

A 500 x 500 mm floor panel can be removed without tools, allowing a cable route to be reconfigured relatively quickly.

Does the system affect sensitive AV equipment?

The system has been tested for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), with a measured shielding performance of approximately 20 to 25 dB, depending on frequency.

Does the floor contribute to a quieter acoustic environment in the studio?

Yes, thanks to improved sound insulation and sound absorption, with or without carpet.

Is the system fire-safe?

Yes, Intercell has been fire-resistance tested in accordance with EN13501-1 and EN13501-2, achieving class Afl-s1. In a small-scale fire test under a load of 800 kg/m², maximum deflection was limited to 0.98 mm.

What load can the floor support, and why is that relevant for a studio?

The system achieves class 4B in accordance with EN12825, with a maximum working load of 10 kN (1,000 kg) on a point load of 25 x 25 mm. In a studio environment, this is relevant for heavy, concentrated loads such as camera tripods, lighting stands, or equipment racks, which are often not evenly distributed across the floor.
