Sustainability and recycling

What Makes Intercell Sustainable

Intercell is built with the full product lifecycle in mind: from raw material to recycling. This is reflected in the material, the production, and the lifespan of the system itself.

Less steel per square metre

With traditional subfloor systems, a considerably thicker layer of material is used compared to Intercell. The steel floor panel from Intercell is only 2 mm thick, supported by 64 floor supports per square metre. Less material per square metre means lower raw material consumption, without compromising load-bearing capacity: the system achieves class 4B in accordance with EN12825.

✓

Minimum 25% recycled steel (LEED-approved)

✓

Steel base components 100% recyclable, even after years of use

✓

Floor supports manufactured using green energy

✓

Rubber coating made from post-consumer recycled rubber granulate (truck tyres)

✓

No post-installation adjustment or settlement correction required, eliminating material waste after installation

Longer service life without additional maintenance

Durability is not only determined by the material itself, but also by how long a system remains operational without supplementary maintenance. Once installed, Intercell requires no readjustment or subsidence correction. This prevents unnecessary material consumption and remedial work later in the building’s service life.

Cool Steel: climate-neutral cable floor

In addition to the standard sustainability features, Cool Steel is a service that allows Intercell to be procured as a climate-neutral product. The CO₂ emissions across the full lifecycle of the product — from raw material extraction through production, transport, use and maintenance to recycling — are offset.

The generated offsets are invested in energy-saving and renewable energy projects. Cool Steel is a supplementary, optional service; clients who do not opt in will simply receive no invoice or certificate for this offset, and the base product remains unchanged.

CO₂ emissions per m² (38 mm pedestal)

Component kg CO₂-eq/m²
Steel panels 34.58
Pedestal (small) 7.05
Adhesive 1.41
Transport 1.19
Manufacturing process 0.32
Other 0.79
