Intercell

Laboratories and cleanrooms

Stable and drill-free floor system with rapidly accessible cabling for sensitive research environments

Designed for laboratories and cleanrooms

In laboratories and cleanrooms, the floor must not interfere with operations: equipment must stand stable, cabling must be clearly organised, and modifications must be possible without dust, drilling, or prolonged downtime. Intercell routes power and data cables beneath a low-profile, hot-dip galvanised steel floor, with each panel removable individually and without tools for fast, targeted maintenance.

✓ Drill-free installation, without disruption to sensitive environments
✓ Each floor panel removable individually and quickly for maintenance
✓ Compatible with underfloor heating or central heating systems
✓ System heights from 40 to 110 mm, adaptable to available space

Construction: solid from below, flexible from above

Beneath the walking surface of Intercell sits a layer of floor supports that determine the floor height and bear the load, ranging from 40 to 110 mm depending on the space required for cables or conduits. Above these, floor boxes ensure that connection points are located precisely where a layout requires them. The top layer consists of individual steel panels of 500 x 500 mm: each panel is a self-contained unit, which in a laboratory environment means that one specific point in the floor can be accessed without affecting the rest of the layout.

Minimal disruption to sensitive research environments

Work carried out in a laboratory or cleanroom must not disturb the rest of the space. Because Intercell is installed without drilling, no dust or vibrations are generated as would occur when drilling into an existing floor. Since each floor panel can be removed individually, maintenance of cabling or pipework is moreover confined to that single floor section, without the need to dismantle the surrounding setup.

Stable subfloor for sensitive equipment

Measurement equipment and laboratory setups are often sensitive to vibration and instability. Intercell has been tested in accordance with EN12825 and achieves class 4B, with a maximum working load of 10 kN on a point load of 25 x 25 mm. The system also withstands both soft body and hard body impact tests without failure, providing a stable foundation for equipment that must continue to operate with precision.

Key Advantages

Core Benefits of the Modular System

Rapid Modularity

The interlocking system enables fast installation and reconfiguration without drilling. Assembly on a levelled floor can be achieved simply by adhesive bonding. Available in 6 fixed height options.

High Load-Bearing Capacity

Class 4B in accordance with EN12825, with a maximum load exceeding 9 kN and a deflection of less than 2.5 mm. The system withstands both soft body and hard body impact tests without failure.

Durable and Recyclable

Intercell is composed of a minimum of 25% recycled steel (LEED-approved). The steel base components are 100% recyclable.

Fire-Safe

Fire resistance tested in accordance with EN13501-1 and EN13501-2, class Afl-s1. In a small-scale fire test under a load of 800 kg/m², maximum deflection remained limited to 0.98 mm.

Acoustic Comfort

Enhanced sound insulation, both horizontally and vertically, as well as sound absorption with or without carpet. The use of acoustic barriers further improves the overall acoustic performance of the floor.

Heating Compatible

The system is excellently suited for underfloor heating and central heating, thanks to its removable, lightweight floor panels.

Frequently asked questions

Is Intercell suitable for cleanrooms where dust is a concern?

Yes. The system is installed without drilling, which means no dust or debris is released as with traditional installation methods.

How quickly can a floor section be accessed for maintenance?

A 500 x 500 mm floor panel can be removed without tools, without having to relocate adjacent panels or equipment.

Is the system suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes, Intercell is excellently suited for both underfloor heating and central heating, thanks to the removable, lightweight floor panels.

How much weight does the system add to the structure?

A maximum of 22 kg/m², while the load-bearing capacity remains consistently high thanks to 64 floor supports per m² and galvanised steel (class 4B, EN12825).

Is the system fire-safe?

Yes, Intercell has been fire resistance tested in accordance with EN13501-1 and EN13501-2 and achieves class Afl-s1. In a small-scale fire test under a load of 800 kg/m², the maximum deflection was limited to 0.98 mm.
