Strong, lightweight, and always stable
The floor supports, also known as pedestals, form the load-bearing structure of the Intercell system. They are installed on the levelled floor by means of adhesive bonding or mega-screws, and support the floor panels placed on top of them. Together, they form a solid, stable system capable of withstanding heavy loads and intensive daily use in demanding environments, from offices and production halls to museums and offshore platforms.
Thanks to the high number of floor supports per square metre — 64 units — the load-bearing capacity of the system is considerable, while the overall weight remains low. The space between the floor supports accommodates cables, pipes, heating tubes, and other services that are neatly concealed beneath the floor, without the need for additional cable ducts or modifications to the existing structure.
64 floor supports per square metre. That is the foundation of the high load-bearing capacity of the Intercell system, without compromising on weight or ease of installation.
Available heights
The floor supports are available in four system heights, ensuring the system suits any situation and any amount of cables, conduits, and other services you wish to conceal beneath the floor. The correct height depends on the amount of space required under the floor. The more cables, conduits, and other services you wish to conceal, the greater the floor support height you will need. Please contact us if you are unsure which height best suits your situation — we are happy to advise.
40mm system height
Floor support 38mm (article number AA100028002). Ideal for situations where available height is limited, but cable management is still required.
60mm system height
Floor support 58mm (article number AA100028003). The most commonly used height for standard office and commercial environments.
90mm system height
Floor support 88mm (article number AA100028005). Suitable for environments with a higher volume of cables or larger services beneath the floor.
110mm system height
Floor support 108mm (article number AA100028006). The highest option, ideal for environments with extensive cabling, conduits, or underfloor heating.
Specifications
The floor supports from Intercell are manufactured from high-quality galvanised cold-rolled sheet steel and are designed for long service life in demanding environments. They are resistant to corrosion, intensive use, and heavy loads, and comply with the most stringent load-bearing standards. Below are the key technical specifications for the Intercell floor supports.
mm thickness
High-quality galvanised cold-rolled sheet steel.
units per m²
High density for maximum load-bearing capacity.
system heights
40, 60, 90 and 110 mm — suitable for every situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What material are the floor supports made of?
The floor supports are made of 0.75mm thick galvanised cold-rolled sheet steel. This material is lightweight, strong, and resistant to corrosion and intensive daily use. The galvanised coating protects the steel against moisture and rust, significantly extending the service life of the floor supports.
How are the floor supports attached to the subfloor?
The floor supports are attached to the levelled subfloor using acrylic dispersion adhesive or mega screws with fix clips. Both methods provide a firm and reliable connection between the floor support and the subfloor, without drilling or demolition work.
How many floor supports are required per square metre?
64 floor supports are required per square metre. This high number of floor supports per square metre is the foundation of the high load-bearing capacity of the Intercell system, while keeping the total weight low.
Which system height is most suitable for my situation?
This depends on the volume of cables, conduits, and other services you wish to conceal beneath the floor. The most commonly used height for standard office and commercial environments is 60mm. For larger cable runs or heating pipes, 90mm or 110mm is more appropriate. Please contact us for tailored advice.
Are the floor supports suitable for use with underfloor heating?
Yes, the floor supports are excellently suited for use in combination with underfloor heating. The space between the floor supports provides ample room for heating pipes, which, together with cables and conduits, are neatly concealed beneath the floor. For underfloor heating, a system height of 60mm or greater is most suitable.
Can the floor supports be used in existing buildings?
Yes, the floor supports can be used in both new and existing buildings. They are attached to the levelled subfloor via adhesive bonding, without drilling or demolition work. The existing floor remains completely intact, which is a significant advantage particularly in renovation projects and listed buildings.
Are the floor supports recyclable?
Yes, the floor supports are made of recyclable steel and consist of 100% recyclable material, even after years of intensive use. Intercell furthermore comprises a minimum of 25% recycled steel that is LEED-approved. A sustainable choice for today and for the future.
