Designed for technical rooms
Technical rooms such as installation, measurement and control rooms, switchgear cabinets, or central plant rooms typically contain a dense combination of cabling, pipework, and equipment that must remain regularly accessible. Intercell provides a stable, hot-dip galvanised steel floor for these environments, with each panel removable individually and without tools, ensuring cables, pipes, and connection points remain within easy reach at all times.
How the Intercell floor is constructed
The structure consists of three components that together form a solid, stable surface: floor supports, floor boxes and floor panels. The floor supports carry the system and determine the final height of the floor. Cables and connection points are concealed within the floor boxes. On top of this structure sit individual steel floor panels of 500 x 500 mm, each of which can be removed without tools.
How to access a floor bay for maintenance
01
Locate the panel
Identify which floor panel is positioned above the desired bay or connection point.
02
Remove the panel
Loosen the 4 mega-screws at the corners of the panel and lift it clear of the floor supports.
03
Access cables or equipment
Work on the cabling, floor box, or conduits in the exposed bay without needing to remove any adjacent panels.
04
Replace the panel
Place the panel back onto the floor supports; the floor is immediately ready to bear full load again.
Robust enough for heavy equipment
Technical rooms often contain heavy, concentrated loads: cabinets, measurement setups and installations that are not evenly distributed across the floor. Intercell has been tested in accordance with EN12825 and achieves class 4B, with a maximum working load of 10 kN on a point load of 25 x 25 mm. The system has also been fire-resistance tested in accordance with EN13501-1 and EN13501-2, class Afl-s1.
Core Advantages of the Modular System
Rapid Modularity
The interlocking system enables fast installation and reconfiguration, without drilling. Assembly on a levelled floor can be carried out easily via adhesive bonding. Available in 6 fixed height options.
High Load Capacity
Class 4B in accordance with EN12825, with a maximum load exceeding 9 kN and a deflection of less than 2.5 mm. The system withstands both soft body and hard body impact tests without failure.
Durable and Recyclable
Intercell contains a minimum of 25% recycled steel (LEED-approved). The steel base components are 100% recyclable.
Fire Safe
Fire resistance tested in accordance with EN13501-1 and EN13501-2, class Afl-s1. In a small-scale fire test under a load of 800 kg/m², maximum deflection remained limited to 0.98 mm.
Acoustic Comfort
Enhanced sound insulation, both horizontal and vertical, and sound absorption with or without carpet. The use of acoustic barriers further improves the overall acoustic performance of the floor.
Suitable for Heating
The system is excellently suited for underfloor heating and central heating, thanks to the removable, lightweight floor panels.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Intercell suitable for technical rooms with a high density of equipment?
Yes. The system has been tested for high load-bearing capacity (class 4B, EN12825), and each floor section is individually accessible, even when the space is densely occupied by cabinets and installations.
How quickly can a floor section be accessed for maintenance?
A 500 x 500 mm floor panel can be removed without tools, without the need to relocate adjacent panels or equipment.
Is the system compatible with underfloor heating?
Yes, Intercell is perfectly suited for both underfloor heating and central heating systems, thanks to its removable, lightweight floor panels.
How much weight does the system add to the structure?
A maximum of 22 kg/m², while the load-bearing capacity remains consistently high (class 4B, EN12825) thanks to 64 floor supports per m² and galvanised steel.
Is the system fire-safe?
Yes, Intercell has been fire resistance tested in accordance with EN13501-1 and EN13501-2, achieving class Afl-s1. In a small-scale fire test under a load of 800 kg/m², the maximum deflection was limited to 0.98 mm.
